American Cancer Society “Traveling Help Desk” to Visit Centralia Cancer Center
Southern Region, IL—Having cancer is hard…finding help shouldn’t be. That is the idea behind a new project by the American Cancer Society called the “Traveling Help Desk”.
A cancer diagnosis is terrifying and confusing. When a doctor tells you that you have cancer, the world as you know it changes…immediately and drastically. Many people report not knowing what to do or what questions to ask; they feel insecure, vulnerable and overwhelmed.
St. Mary’s Good Samaritan and the American Cancer Society are trying to help people overcome those insecurities by offering hope and support with the “Traveling Help Desk”. The Traveling Help Desk is designed to be a mobile extension of the Southern Region American Cancer Society office, bringing a Patient Service Staff Partner into local communities. The Help Desk provides guidance for cancer patients, survivors, and caregivers to help them navigate the cancer experience.
Some of the services that will be available from the Traveling Help Desk will be cancer information, personal support, nutritional information, free wigs, and help finding financial assistance with prescriptions and co-pays.
The American Cancer Society’s Traveling Help Desk is scheduled to make a stop in Centralia on April 23rd, from 10:00am until 3:00pm. It will be located in the Lobby of the Cancer Center at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital. If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with cancer, and you need help finding information, assistance, or resources, this is a good starting point.
