Presented by Rend Lake College and St. Mary’s Good Samaritan

MOUNT VERNON, Ill. (March 3, 2009) – Later this month, healthcare professionals will have a chance to learn about management of diabetes, a disease that affects 8% of the American population.  Rend Lake College Community Education, in partnership with St. Mary’s Good Samaritan and Sanofi-Aventis, will host their second annual healthcare professional workshop on Wednesday, March 25, from 8 am – 4:30 pm at the Holiday Inn in Mt. Vernon.

The workshop covers the impact and complications associated with this highly prevalent disease.  Nationally known diabetes expert Jane Bridges, MD, is the keynote speaker.  Dr. Bridges has been the Medical Director of the Welch Diabetes Education Center in Vincennes, Indiana for the past 16 years.  Other sessions available include “Vascular Disease and Diabetes,” with John Codd, MD; “Critical Care Concerns for Diabetes” with Jeffrey Rapp, PharmD; “Educating Patients about Diabetes,” with Diane Terry, RN, BSN, Certified Diabetes Educator; and “Gestational Diabetes,” with David Walters, MD.

Healthcare professionals from the entire region are invited to attend.  A complimentary luncheon will be provided, as well as time for networking and visiting several vendor booths that will be available.  Vendors at the event include Air Evac Lifeteam, McKendree University, Mid-Continent University, Hangar Prosthetics, St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Diabetes Education Program, and much more!

The cost for attending the workshop is $47 (students pay a discounted rate of $37).  Dietitian Nutritionists may earn continuing education units through their attendance, and all participants will earn .5 credit hours through Rend Lake College.
