Patient Letter - January 2009
Patient Letters

Dear Mr. Joe Hodges

First of all, I wanted to write a short letter and send it back with the survey your office mailed to me.

I would like to tell you a little bit about myself and then hopefully you can understand why my family and I are so thankful not only to God but to St. Anthony. My name is David McWilliams and in 1961 when I was born, my mother and father were told that I was the first baby in OKC to survive being born with Gastroschisis. I was actually born in Holdenville, OK. On January 9, 2009, I was awakened with severe abdominal pain. I was staying in my trailer while working in the Elk City area. After four hours of the pain, I drove myself to the Great Plains ER in Elk City, OK. After running several tests to determine my problem, they came in the ER room to tell my wife and me that I needed surgery and there was no one qualified to do the surgery; this is where St. Anthony comes in. The ER doctor told us they had contacted St. Anthony and a surgeon was waiting to operate as soon as they could get me there.

I am grateful for everyone at the Hospital in Elk City for everything they did but I am very thankful they chose St. Anthony Hospital and you accepted me. We had no control over where they were transferring me. I would like to start with thanking the ER staff at St. Anthony, the nurses who prepared me for surgery. They were all great even the surgeons Dr. Holsaeter and Dr. Jackson and the whole O.R. staff. For more than 14 days, I received wonderful care from the internal medicine doctor, Megan Meyer-Hanner and her staff, especially the entire tenth floor, from the receptionist, head charge nurse and all the way down to housekeeping. I don't think I could have received any better care any where in the entire world than the care I received while at St. Anthony. I would like to thank everyone involved with me and again especially the tenth floor for the courtesy that my family, especially my wife, received since she spent the entire 14 days with me while I was in St. Hospital. Also, I would like to thank the Concierge staff for their courtesy and help when needed. I am sure I may have forgotten someone, so I would like to thank everyone involved from the time I arrived until I was dismissed from St. Anthony for the wonderful care and courtesy that we received.

Sincerely and Thankfully,

David and Tara McWilliams
