Natural Fertility Options

June 16, 2008 ( Oklahoma City , OK ) --
In a world of technology for infertility, one metro OB/GYN is getting back to the basics and having amazing results.  Dr. Mary Martin's practice at St. Anthony Hospital is different than most.  Dr. Martin is very upfront in telling patients that she can help them find out why they aren't getting pregnant, but she won't perform insemination or in-vitro fertilization.  In fact, Dr. Martin takes that one step further in saying her infertility patients won't even have to come in for time consuming blood or urine tests either.  Many patients are finding her approach refreshing, effective, and less expensive.

It is Dr. Martin's faith that led her to implementing the Billings Ovulation Method.  However, it is several reasons that lead patients to her door asking for more information.  Many couples want to try every means possible to conceive on their own before taking the technology route.  Dr. Martin empowers them to do so by teaching this low-stress method of monitoring your own hormones.  While very few physicians teach the "rhythm method", the Billings Ovulation Method is even more uncommon than that.  This method of charting started in 1953 and has been helping women conceive and understand other hormone-related health problems for years.  In fact, Dr. Martin says it is more reliable than six different ovulation predictors.

The other noticeable advantage to Dr. Martin's theory is that it can save couples thousands of dollars spent on infertility procedures.  Plus, there is no taking your temperature every morning, no ovulation kits, just a simple chart with easy to understand stickers.

It's an idea that crosses over to help many generations of women.  A growing number of young women are prescribed birth control pills by gynecologists to "regulate" their period, however often times, they don't find out what the problem is that is causing the irregularity.  By masking the problem, they aren't treating it according to Dr. Martin.  In fact, Dr. Martin has found in her practice that these issues are often linked back to an insulin resistance problem that needs further medical attention.

Women past their child bearing age can be impacted by this also.  Dr. Martin says nearly two thirds of all women have had a hysterectomy by the time they are menopausal.  She believes if you find the root of the problem and deal with it at that level, many of these hysterectomies can be prevented.
