September 26, 2008, ( Oklahoma City , OK ) -- St. Anthony Hospital and Devon Energy representatives will join Mayor Mick Cornett and the Midtown community to celebrate the completion of the Devon Energy Plaza. The event will highlight the area's drastic transformation from a vacant area to a beautiful space that compliments the hospital's East Entrance and enhances the heart of Midtown. The Midtown celebration will be Friday, September 26th at 10 a.m. at Devon Energy Plaza at St. Anthony Hospital on the corner of Walker and 9th Street. "There is no doubt that the Devon Energy Plaza is a substantial contribution to the stimulation of growth in Midtown and St. Anthony's commitment to the area. There is a vast difference in what could have been and what now is. The ripple effect has and will pay dividends to the Midtown community," said Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett. Since the project was announced less than one year ago, at least half a dozen new businesses have been established in the area, a signal that the investment has helped spur Midtown's ongoing renaissance. For the first time, the profound results of the generous $500,000 donation from Devon to the St. Anthony Foundation will be displayed to the media and public. Both the education and the arts community will contribute to the climatic moment of revealing the new Devon Energy Plaza at the hospital. "As we celebrate 110 years in Midtown, there is no better way to reinforce our commitment to the community and proclaim, 'We are here, and we are thriving' than to open the Devon Energy Plaza next to the East Entrance and Saints Medical Plaza building. The view is a statement in and of itself," said Joe Hodges, St. Anthony Hospital President. "Midtown is rapidly transforming into a vibrant community where people live, work, and visit," said Devon Energy President and CEO Larry Nichols. "We are excited that our partnership with St. Anthony has resulted in a space that furthers the mission of the hospital and serves as a place for the community to enjoy."
