Touching the Littlest Lives
Some of our littlest and sickest patients have a new place to receive exceptional care. The Dana Brown Neonatal Intensive Care Unit opened this fall, part of a new four-story wing at SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center in St. Louis.
Named for the late St. Louis adventurer and philanthropist, the unit has 52 private rooms for single-birth families and four "twin rooms" for multiple-birth families. The unit replaces an open ward and provides more privacy and intimacy for premature or seriously ill infants and their families.
Each room has a couch that converts into a bed and the unit includes shower facilities for parents, a lounge with TV and WiFi Internet access. The 130,000-square-foot wing also includes 10 pediatric surgical rooms giving SSM Cardinal Glennon one of the most technologically advanced pediatric surgery departments in the nation.
