Grand Opening in Madison, Wis.
MADISON, Wis. -- State-of-the-art meets state-of-the-heart at the newly expanded St. Mary's Hospital. The expansion, dedicated almost entirely to cardiac care, includes 75 private patient rooms, 18 general operating rooms, four operating rooms dedicated solely to cardiovascular surgery and an expanded emergency department. Hear from hospital president Dr. Frank Byrne on the expansion.
A rooftop helipad will get patients the care they need faster. In addition, the new space will use an electronic health records system at the hospital, enhancing information-sharing between caregivers and patients. All of that was added while honoring the 95-year-old hospital’s past by incorporating history into the new design.

Some fast facts about the project, which doubled the size of the hospital's campus:
A 235,000-square-foot inpatient building, which opened in January, includes 22 surgical suites; 75 private patient rooms; and expanded cardiovascular care and a rooftop helipad providing easier access to emergency department.
A 185,000-square-foot outpatient building opened in December and includes a surgery and care center; digestive health center and physician offices.
A new 700-stall parking garage.
The new expansion preserves several historic elements from the hospital, including its 1911 cornerstone, pillars from the original hospital building and stained-glass chapel windows.
