When flu season arrives in Shawnee, Okla., St. Anthony Shawnee Hospital gives its on-the-go residents over 1,500 free vaccinations during its annual drive-through flu clinic.
Whether it's a flu clinic or a home visit or a health fair, we care about the health of the communities we operate in and the people who live there. Healthier communities, after all, mean people living happier, more productive lives and less strain on the already-strapped financial resources of communities.
That’s why SSM Health Care produced the following Community Health Needs Assessments for communities big and small, rural and urban in the states we operate in – Wisconsin, Illinois, Missouri and Oklahoma.
The assessments are required under the U.S. Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and take into account feedback from many people in the communities served by SSM hospitals, especially people with expertise in public health. Once the community health needs are identified, hospitals must adopt strategies and actions to address them. A number of illnesses were identified -- from access to care to diabetes to obesity -- but so were opportunities for SSM to be an even greater force for good in our communities.
