In compliance with the Federal Trade Commission's "Red Flag Rules," every SSM Health Care entity that permits multiple payments on transactions is required by August 1, 2009 to establish a program to prevent identity theft. The new program's goal is to protect patients and others against the use of corrupted medical information or the submission of false claims.
What can you do to protect yourself against someone using or attempting to use your identifying information without your permission?
According to the FTC, there are three steps you can take. 1. Deter identity thieves by safeguarding your information. 2. Detect suspicious activity by routinely monitoring your financial accounts and billing statements. 3. Defend against ID theft as soon as you suspect it.
