Patient-Friendly MyChart Debuts in SSM-St. Louis
(May 7, 2009) -- Patients of SSM Health Care-St. Louis physicians can be more of a partner in their care thanks to MyChart, a new online service in the St. Louis area that gives them secure, near-instant access to their own medical record.
They can sign up only through doctors within the SSM Health Care Physicians' Organization, which includes SSM St. Charles Clinic Medical Group, SSM Medical Group and SSM DePaul Medical Group. Patients access MyChart via their computers using a special code allowing them to log in to MyChart.
More than 140 St. Louis-area physicians have linked to the patient-friendly MyChart; about 1,900 have been granted access though about 900 patients are actively using the new service. MyChart is also offered through Dean Health System physicians, a health-care partner of SSM Health Care of Wisconsin.
With MyChart, patients can:
- View their medical histories, tests results, immunization records and medications.
- Request appointments and prescription refills.
- Receive notices when itís time for health screenings.
- Send and receive e-mails from their doctors.
- Access an online medical reference service.
MyChart is being offered as part of SSMís $330 million transformation from paper to electronic health records called "Project Beacon." Epic Systems Corp., the medical software company, created MyChart.
Another new feature of SSM's electronic health record is E-Prescribe which allows physicians to send prescriptions electronically from their offices to pharmacies, saving time and eliminating the possibility of data entry error.
Listen to SSM physician Dr. Jay Moore talk about the benefits to patients and physicians of using MyChart and how it was used during the recent outbreak of the H1N1 virus (swine flu) to keep patients informed of developments.
