SSM Health Care comes from a tradition in which its founding religious sisters did everything they could to provide loving care to the sick. Today, Mission Awareness Teams (MATs) at every SSM facility sponsor events to heighten awareness of this tradition and to ensure employees feel a strong connection to our mission.
MATs foster a sense of community among employees, physicians and volunteers by hosting annual mission awareness days. They also sponsor collection drives to help people and other organizations in the community. For instance, at the annual Mother Odilia Day observance (in honor of SSM’s foundress), the Mission Awareness Team at SSM St. Mary’s Health Center, in St. Louis, sponsors a drive in which employees from various departments contribute baskets loaded with goods for people in the community. Their baskets fill the entrance to the hospital -- evidence of employees’ great generosity.
Annually, in observance of Mother Odilia Day, MATs throughout the system distribute bread to employees (above), honoring the story of the basket.
