PURPOSE
The St. Clare Hospital and Health Services Auxiliary is a volunteer organization, composed of members from the Baraboo, Wisconsin Dells area who are committed to serve the needs of the hospital and its patients, as well as to promote the development of medical personnel from within the community.
The Auxiliary meets these needs through a variety of personal service and fund-raising activities planned in conjunction with St. Clare Hospital and Health Services administrative policy and in harmony with hospital and community goals.
HISTORY
The St. Mary’s Ringling Auxiliary was formed on September 22, 1958 with a charter membership of 57 community residents. Five years later, with the construction of St. Clare Hospital, the service organization changed its name to the St. Clare Hospital Auxiliary. In 1993, the organizations name changed at the same time the hospital changed its name to St. Clare Hospital and Health Services. With a current membership of over 200, the Auxiliary continues to grow and find creative ways to service the hospital and community today.
Since its formation, the Auxiliary has donated over a quarter of a million dollars to the hospital. Some major contributions made to the hospital by the St. Clare Hospital and Health Services Auxiliary have included funding for the purchase of equipment and facilities for the Intensive Care Unit, Mammography equipment, Electroencephalograph equipment, Fetal Monitors and a variety of furnishings, camera and audio equipment.
SERVICES PROVIDED
Continuing services provided St. Clare Hospital and Health Services and its patients by the Auxiliary include:
FIRST GRADE TOURS
First grade students from school districts within the St. Clare Hospital and Health Services service area tour the facility each fall. The Auxiliary sponsors these tours, which are conducted by hospital staff, in order to acquaint youngsters with the hospital and to reinforce the development of good nutrition habits.
24 HOUR FLOWER SERVICE
The St. Clare Hospital and Health Services Auxiliary provides a 24 hour flower service for the benefit of the hospital’s patients. A floral vending machine is located in the buildings main lobby, and is kept freshly stocked and maintained by a local florist.
GIFT SHOP
The Unique Boutique generates much of the Auxiliary’s annual income. Volunteers make, purchase, display and sell a variety of handmade and commercial gift items.
TEDDY BEAR WORKSHOPS
Volunteers get together periodically to stuff teddy bears. All materials are provided for sewing the simple handmade teddy bears, which are given to children serviced by the hospital.
SEWING GROUP
An Auxiliary sewing group meets each Thursday morning in Room 27 of the Baraboo Civic Center to produce items for sale in the gift shop, as well as special fund-raising functions. “Crafty” volunteers are needed to share their talents and ideas at these and other production sessions scheduled throughout the year. Materials for sewing and other crafts are provided, as well, for those who prefer to create items for the Auxiliary at home.
KNITTING GROUP
The knitting group welcomes any items that are knitted, crocheted, needlepoint, counted cross stitch, or embroidered. All supplies are furnished and items are displayed and for sale at the gift shop.
ADULT VOLUNTEERS
Adult volunteers (18 years of age or older) provide support services to hospital staff wherever needed within the hospital building. Volunteers may opt to provide supplemental clerical and medical team support, or limited patient-contact services under the supervision of hospital staff.
SCHOLARSHIPS
The Auxiliary annually awards scholarships to deserving local applicants who wish to pursue a career in the medical field.
