When you think of breast health, you might automatically think of cancer. But breast health isn’t necessarily about recovering from disease – it’s prevention as well. Maintaining good breast health is important for women of all ages, and no one knows better than the women on staff at the SSM St. Joseph Breast Center at St. Joseph Medical Park.
Multidisciplinary Team At the Breast Center, you have access to a women’s health advocate, a radiologist who specializes in reading mammograms and a breast surgeon – all women who know about being a woman. Our multidisciplinary team combines the knowledge and expertise of physicians, specialty trained nurses and technologists to provide you with the latest information, testing, research. Our approach is patientfocused and directed toward diagnostic, surgical and therapeutic care.
The Breast Center team includes the following members: you and your primary care physician, and a surgeon, radiologist, medical oncologist, radiation oncologist, pathologist and our Women’s Health Advocate. Together, they develop and coordinate an individualized treatment plan to determine what is best for you.
Same Day Results It’s comforting to know you can receive a routine screening mammography, diagnostic mammogram or breast ultrasound at the Breast Center and get your results the same day. No more waiting over the weekend or even overnight for your physician to call with your results. Mammograms are read by Christine Geraghty, M.D., who received her fellowship training at the Washington School of Medicine, and who specializes in reading breast images.
Advocate for Your Health Our women’s health is an extremely important part of the multidisciplinary team, our Women’s Health Advocate serves as the coordinator between you and your physicians. Her work begins when you receive your mammography results and will not end until you have completed your treatment program and no longer have questions about your care. She is available at St. Joseph Health Center in St. Charles, St. Joseph Medical Park in St. Peters, and St. Joseph Hospital West in Lake Saint Louis, and serves as a resource to patients seeking cancer-related information by providing education and support.
