Heritage of Healing, Heritage of Giving
The SSM St. Joseph Foundation was established in 1991 to develop support from the community in the ongoing mission of SSM St. Joseph Health Center and SSM St. Joseph Hospital West by providing opportunities to share personal resources and develop partnerships in support of SSM St. Joseph’s healing ministry.
This healing ministry began more than a century ago in 1885, when the Sisters of St. Mary established their first hospital, St. Joseph Hospital, in St. Charles. Their ministry of healing has grown into a 352-bed acute care hospital, SSM St. Joseph Health Center and a 125-bed acute care community hospital in Lake Saint Louis, SSM St. Joseph Hospital West.
The Sisters not only began our heritage of healing, but created a heritage of giving that SSM St. Joseph Foundation continues today. Everyone deserves the best care and Foundation gifts provide funding for programs and services that reach out to people in our community who otherwise would not have access to essential health care services.
Since its inception, SSM St. Joseph Foundation has provided over $7 million in funding for:
- Development of a heart and lung center
- Breast cancer prevention and early detection programs
- Creation of the Senior Dental Clinic
- Transportation for doctor’s office visits for disabled and elderly patients
- Essential surgical tools for trauma and surgery patients
- Community health education
- Medical staff training. . . and much more.
