Surgical Services

St. Joseph offers state-of-the-art surgical equipment and technology, including gynecology, cardiovascular, neurological, orthopedic, plastic and dental.  

Cardiac surgery, including open heart, coronary artery bypass and valve replacement are performed by a specialized team of nurses and surgeons.  In 2001, St. Joseph Health Center performed nearly 300 open heart surgeries.

The Vascular Institute at St. Joseph Health Center offers the latest procedures and techniques in vascular surgery as technology allows transformation from traditional vascular surgery to a less invasive or endovascular therapy.  A dedicated vascular suite at St. Joseph Health Center is equipped with the latest technology to allow minimally invasive abdominal aneurysm repair, enabling patients to return home the next day.

SSM St. Joseph has the most advanced imaging technologies available to assess musculoskeletal injuries and disorders.  We combine the latest in orthopedic technology and techniques with highly skilled multidisciplinary teams of clinicians, surgeons and therapists to prepare a treatment plan tailored to the needs of each patient.

Our orthopedic specialists work closely with the anesthesiologist in the St. Joseph Pain Management Center to find a treatment alternative to surgery.  However, if the treatment plan calls for surgery, the latest surgical procedures allow shorter hospital stays, much less pain and easier rehabilitation than in the past.

Outpatient surgery procedures, which do not require an overnight stay, enable patients to be in and out of the hospital within hours.  The Outpatient Surgery Center at St. Joseph Health Center is easily accessible from the Health CenterĘs semicircle entrance, and outpatient services at St. Joseph Hospital West are located through a private entrance on the ground floor of the hospital.  Admitting, surgery preparation, family waiting and patient recovery are located in one central location at both facilities.
